Buying Local

Land spraying is a simple technique used by gas companies to recycle drilling mud.

The technology was originally imported from Canada but one company is now trialling a locally built rig and planning to manufacture more.

The land spraying truck (photographed) is believed to be the first one of its kind ever built in Australia, constructed locally in Toowoomba for Kinetic Australia.

Kinetic operates a small fleet of trucks in the Roma gas fields for Santos and plans to expand its operations to include more locally built equipment.

According to Kinetic Australia General Manager, Vincent James the company is “currently in the procurement process to expand our existing fleet and as always preference is given to local suppliers”.

The company makes no promises that the next truck will be built in Toowoomba but points out that “the closer to Roma we make them the better it is for us”.

Kinetic also employs locally where possible and currently has 10 employees with the right skill set to operate the land spraying trucks and associated equipment.

Local business operators maintain the equipment.
